As some of you will know, many of countries require a passport to be valid for 6 months when you enter. This often meant you had to renew your passport months before its expiry date. The Passport Office generously took this into consideration and would grant an extra up to 9 months on the basic 10 years.
No more. As from last week, UK passports will only be issued for 10 years, regardless of how long you have left on your old one. This change wasn't generally announced, but apparently hidden away in one of the Brexit briefing papers.
Welcome to the 9 1/2 year passport.

That's pretty cool that you've been to Indonesia a few times, even if it was during your time in the RN. It must have been quite an experience to see one of your old ships being sold and renamed. I checked out the link you shared about HMS Gurkha becoming KRI Wilhelmus Zakarias Yohannes. It's interesting to see the history behind it.
