Hi,
I manage a Business Center in a convention center. We outsource our poster printing orders to a Print shop. We are researching the feasibility of printing the posters in house. The poster orders we receive are normally 48"x48", semi-gloss. I am hoping this forum can answer some of my questions as I have no knowledge or experience in this field.
What would the cost be to purchase the equipment needed to print posters (48"x48") at a quality equal to or better than a commercial print shop?
How big are these printers?
What type of consumable are needed?
What software is required?
How many staff are needed and what type of skillset or experience are required to operate a successful poster printing operation?
I'd appreciate it if you can answer these questions and any advice that I should be aware of.
Thanks!

When I managed a small event space, we faced similar decisions. For a 48"x48" poster, you’ll likely need a wide-format printer. Prices can range from a couple of thousand to much higher, depending on quality. The printers are usually quite large, often taking up a good chunk of space.
You’ll need consumables like ink and specific paper types—semi-gloss is a popular choice. For software, programs like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW work well for design.
As for staff, having at least one person skilled in graphic design and print production is ideal to ensure everything runs smoothly. If you want to explore more about starting this venture, link for some useful resources that can guide you further (*****).

A good idea for a business, since many people need printing. I know of only one good printing company so far *****. Last time I ordered exhibition stands there to present my brand at an event. They made the right size and in the best way. Everything is rich and high quality, but a lot depends on the initial image quality!
