What's the best airsoft pistol platform if you plan to upgrade it later?

I'm looking for a sidearm that performs well out of the box but also has plenty of upgrade potential if I decide to improve it later. There seem to be a lot of popular platforms available—Hi-Capa, Glock-style pistols, 1911s, M9s, and others—but I'm not sure which one has the best aftermarket support for parts and accessories. For those who've upgraded their airsoft pistols, which platform would you recommend and why? I'm particularly interested in reliability, spare parts availability, magazine compatibility, and long-term durability. If you were buying your first pistol again today, would you choose the same model or go with something different? |

I know this thread is a bit old, but I wanted to chime in. If you’re planning to upgrade later, a Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa is hard to beat – huge aftermarket support, tons of spare parts, and great reliability. The only downside is the plastic slide, but that’s easy to swap. What kind of budget are you working with? | |

For a platform with strong upgrade potential, I'd pick a Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa. I got reliable mags and spare parts for my build at bespokeairsoft.co.uk, and their range covers everything from gas blowback to electric options. My own pistol runs great after that. | |
