When World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic launches in 2022, Blizzard developers will once again focus on an authentic gaming experience. However, there will be some differences from the original 2008 release. That is what this article is supposed to be about.
Yesterday, April 19, 2022, there was finally official confirmation: World of Warcraft: ***** is here! And that already in 2022! Featuring Northrend, death knights, inscriptions, achievements, and numerous challenges in dungeons and raids. This time, Blizzard developers should once again focus on an authentic gaming experience. However, it is clear that differences from the original 2008 version await us. That's what the following is about.
WotLK Classic has no dungeon finder!
Let's get straight to the biggest surprise of the WotLK Classic announcement: the automatic party search that made its debut in patch 3.3 will not be available in WotLK Classic. According to Blizzard, dungeon explorers are at odds with the spirit of the Classic community that has been built over the past few years.
According to Blizzard, many Classic fans just don't feel "casual" enough to suddenly leave the group without reporting. Those who like the experience of a dungeon explorer can find this in retail stores in World of Warcraft. Instead, Classic fans value social contacts and the opportunity to network, organize, coordinate and exchange ideas.
However, TBC Classic's manual party finder feature leaves a lot to be desired, and the developers want to remedy this by allowing new players to find the right chat channels to connect with other players for party finders.
WotLK releases the previous death knight for everyone!
Even at the end of the World of Warcraft Classic era, it's possible to level up Blood Elves and Draenei early, or level up a Shaman on the Alliance side or a Paladin on the Horde side, and then - if you're quick enough - Naxxramas is no longer safe close. Blizzard wants to give us something similar as we transition from TBC Classic to WotLK Classic.
With the pre-patch, all World of Warcraft players will be able to create a level 55 death knight and be ready for an adventure in Northrend (i.e. level 70) without having to meet any restrictions or requirements (other than a valid World of Warcraft Subscription). (Get your gear from Sunwell Plateau and Co.). Now all we have to do is pray that Blizzard will give us more time to upgrade than the blood elves and draenei this time around.
Here is some additional information that came to light during the interview and after the announcement.
The barbers in WotLK Classic will have more customization options than they did back then. From then on, character customization will no longer be a paid service, instead we will be paying the barber in gold. The only paid service for WotLK Classic is transferring known characters to another server.
As with TBC Classic, there will again be an optional, paid character boost that will take characters to level 70. This is primarily intended for players who have never played Classic but still want to get into Northrend as soon as possible. More details on cost and availability will be announced at a later date. One thing is clear: Death Knights cannot be upgraded, and each account can only upgrade one character to 70 this way.
