Brave, bold and retro – Graham Chronofighter Vintage GMT The ***** Chronofighter Vintage GMT is a testament to a bold approach to technical design, directly inspired by historic military timepieces. On the left side of the case, its signature lever allows the wearer to easily start and stop the chronograph using their thumb—the fastest of all fingers—even when they're wearing thick pilot gloves. The brand's iconic model celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2016 and remains unconventional in many ways. Its oversized 47mm case, with its unique (slightly) luxurious chronograph lever, is instantly recognizable. The early success of the Chronofighter led to the launch of the first Chronofighter GMT a few years later, in 2004/2005. In 2016, the Chronofighter 'Vintage' range debuted, and now Graham is adding another model to the range, targeted at regular jets like you and me. Like last year's Chronofighter "Vintage", the Chronofighter GMT Vintage's case has been shrunk down to 44mm, making it more restrained and wearable (relatively speaking, of course) than its predecessor. It features the elegantly redesigned start-stop trigger, knurled onion crown and mushroom reset button found on other “Vintage” models in the collection, subtle design elements that work together to truly re-enhance the classic pilot's *****. design. Its unidirectional rotating GMT bezel is made of ceramic and has 24 positions. The slightly domed sapphire crystal accentuates the watch's character. The dual composite dial provides excellent readability. The sun-brushed finish with radial gradient captures multiple shades and is truly spectacular. It comes in different colours - green, brown, black or blue dial with luminous numerals and hour markers and cool red accents. At the heart of the Chronofighter Vintage GMT is the G1733 movement, an automatic chronograph movement with a large date and a second time zone. This reliable workhorse is a modified Valjoux 7750 that operates at 4Hz and has a power reserve of about 2 days. Its traditional finishes (Geneva stripes, blued screws) are visible on the back of the watch. The straight-cut calfskin strap is colour-coordinated with the dial and features off-white hand stitching for the finishing touch. It is closed with a steel pin buckle.***** The Graham Chronofighter Vintage GMT is a stylish stopwatch with a difference. Naturally, its unconventional design may not be to everyone's taste. I've always been a fan of this model and I believe the understated "retro" version is a clever evolution. These are better dressed and more elegant, while still retaining the unmistakable features of their wilder siblings. The function of the chronograph trigger remains impressive while protecting the crown. The GMT indication is a useful addition. The legibility of the large date dial is perfect.
