Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore: What's the difference?
Over the years, Swiss luxury watchmaker Audemars Piguet has mastered the art of watchmaking and has earned a reputation as one of the few oldest and exclusive watch brands in the world. From time to time, Audemars Piguet releases limited watch collections to please its followers.*****
Audemars Piguet has transcended the boundaries of theory and technology for a number of generations of Swiss watchmaking technology. According to current statistics, the Swiss luxury watch company is one of the few family companies that has survived.
Since its foundation in 1875, Audemars Piguet has a strong following and offers products of the same quality. In fact, it is one of the most popular watch brands in the world, and its fans include celebrities, politicians and royals.
Audemars Piguet's artisans take pride in creating artistic mechanicals, chronographs and watches with astronomical complications. More than 80% of all Audemars Piguet watches have at least one complication. Some of their watches are so sophisticated that many people think they should be kept in a museum.
In 1972, artist and luxury watch designer Gerald Genta conceived one of the two most precious projects of Audemars Piguet to date, calling it Royal Oak. This is the first stainless steel series to hold the octagonal case together with bare screws.*****
Although doubts were raised about this watch due to its unconventional design, it quickly became the main flagship product of Audemars Piguet. It set a precedent for many watch companies.
To celebrate the success of Royal Oak, the company launched a predecessor called Royal Oak Offshore on its 20th birthday. From almost the same design and function, it is difficult to distinguish the two. In this article, we outline the main differences between some of the most familiar works in the two series.
Subtle differences between Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore
The difference between the Royal Oak and the offshore watch is very subtle, but it is worth noting-mainly in the size, the dial pattern is slightly different, and the chronograph is more.
size. The Royal Oak offshore model is 1 mm larger than the Royal Oak-the offshore model has a 42 mm case, while the Royal Oak has 41 mm. Compared to Royal Oak's 10.88mm (or less) thickness, Offshore is also thicker at 14.90mm.*****
Style profile. Due to the size difference between Royal Oak and Royal Oak Offshore, the latter is more sporty than the elegant classic look of Royal Oak.
dial. For starters, the dials of Royal Oak and Offshore may look the same, but they are actually slightly different. The dial of the Royal Oak has a smaller square or "tapisserie" called Grande Tapisserie. At the same time, the larger square for offshore movement is called the Mega Tapisserie mode.
Chronograph. Royal Oak's chronograph small dial is located at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock, while Offshore's chronograph small dial is located at 6, 9 and 12 o'clock.
For further explanation, we have compiled some of our favorite works in each of the following series.
AUDEMARS PIGUET Royal Oak Series
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Automatic
41mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Automatic is one of the first products in the Royal Oak collection. With an impressive 41mm display, it comes with a beautiful blue dial that people love. As a result, it is constantly sold out. The hour markers are set in 18K white gold against the famous Grand Tapisserie pattern.
If you often wear a suit, then its thinner 9.8mm case is perfect for you. The fact that it was made of pure 316 L stainless steel made it a hit. The watch has a 60-hour power reserve.*****
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Automatic Chronograph
Like all watches in the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak collection, the Royal Oak self-winding chronograph comes in a 41 mm stainless steel case with anti-glare sapphire crystal. It shows a black dial with a Grand Tapisserie pattern, this time with a larger chronograph and a brighter luminous coating for readability.
This Royal Oak self-winding chronograph is powered by the 2385 self-winding movement and offers a 40-hour power reserve. What sets this watch apart is its automatic winding mechanism, which means that it can be powered by the natural movement of the wrist.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Skeleton
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Openworked watch features an anti-glare sapphire crystal and an 18K rose gold case protected by a case back. This watch solves the previous stability problem by fixing the hairspring assembly and the second balance wheel on the same shaft. This ensures that the action is precise, which is exactly what you pay.
This 41mm watch features a grey skeleton dial with rose gold hour markers and Royal Oak hands with luminous coating. This watch is equipped with a Manufacture 3132 movement, which has a 45-hour power reserve and 50m water resistance.*****
AUDEMARS PIGUET Royal Oak Ocean Series
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Automatic Chronograph
This Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore self-winding chronograph has a diameter of 42mm and a thickness of 14.4mm. It is sturdy and durable. The blue dial, steel case and bracelet maintain elegance and refinement.
Dial with Petite Tapisserie motif, accented by dark blue inner ring. The markers and Royal Oak hands are beautiful 18K white gold with a luminous coating for maximum readability. A date window peeks at 3 o'clock and blends perfectly with the three sub-dials for the chronograph function. The screw-down crown and buttons are in the same blue tone to complement the body's stainless steel silver.
Calibre 3126/3840 provides a 50-hour power reserve for this self-winding chronograph.*****
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Diver
The divers at the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak are on a white dial, which is a significant deviation from their idiomatic blue trend. Of course, the dial uses the iconic Mega Tapisserie mode, which is a more significant change. The time scale is made of 18K white gold, but the coating is blue, which breaks the monotony. What looks soft is the white rotating inner circle, the dive scale and area from blue to 60 minutes.
Like the usual maritime standards, this particular model has a case of 42 mm and a thickness of 14.4 mm. As the name suggests, this watch is designed for people who love water sports. Water-resistant to 300 meters.
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon Chronograph
To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the company released two limited edition chronographs, one of which is this Royal Oak Offshore Tourbillon chronograph. After redesign, it represents the avant-garde spirit of contemporary art in architecture.
This precision tourbillon chronograph has an impressive 45 mm case with a thickness of 16.1 mm. The black dial is equipped with beautiful 18K white gold hands and a sub-dial with a 30-minute timekeeping function. The tourbillon is visible at 9 o'clock.
This 2947 caliber is equipped with this powerful watch, which can provide a power reserve of 173 hours. The black rubber strap with stainless steel pin buckle creates a rugged look.
